Experience the lives and legacy of George and Martha Washington at The Jackson Theatre on Saturday, August 8, with two special events featuring nationally recognized historical interpreters.
The afternoon begins at 2 p.m. with Meet the Washington’s, a family-friendly presentation designed to introduce audiences to the lives, personalities and legacy of George and Martha Washington. Guests will have the opportunity to hear stories from America’s founding era as the Washingtons come to life through engaging first-person interpretation. Tickets are $15.
Later that evening, The Jackson Theatre will host a separate ticketed event, Dinner with George & Martha: Be Our Guest “In the Room Where It Happens,” an immersive evening celebrating early American history through dining, music and storytelling. Guests will enjoy an 18th-century-inspired dinner featuring recipes from Mount Vernon, period music by Muster Grounds Musick, a traditional fife and drum corps, a cash bar featuring 18th-century-inspired cocktails and a selection of bourbons, and a special presentation by George and Martha Washington offering a glimpse into the lives, leadership and personal stories of America’s first presidential couple.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with music beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the Washingtons taking the stage at 7:15 p.m. Each dinner ticket includes one complimentary drink ticket for an alcoholic beverage, with additional beverages available for purchase. Hannah Harvey is a contemporary Appalachian storyteller whose boundless energy is undeniably contagious. Join the Jackson Theatre and the McKinney Center for a series of programs celebrating local history and America’s 250th birthday. Tales of Our 250th includes skits, historians, re-enactors, musicians, and much more in a tapestry of Jonesborough stories and community history. These events will run June-October and start at 7:00 pm. They are Pay What You Can but go ahead and reserve your seats at Jonesborough.com/tickets.
Each evening will include a scene or scenes from the original play The First and Last Town in Tennessee, written by Anne G’Fellers-Mason, which premiered earlier this year at the McKinney Center and was featured in The New York Times. Join Jonesborough historian Paul Fink, portrayed by Tim Herron, as he walks you through the big and small moments that make Jonesborough an important part of the American story.

August 20th – The Road to Freedom: African American History in Jonesborough including a special presentation of the original and award-winning play Nancy, presented by the Heritage Alliance
September 24th – The Lost State of Franklin with a presentation by Dr. William Hardy from MTSU and the stories behind the Battle of the State of Franklin with Tipton Haynes State Historic Site
October 22nd – A House Divided: Civil War History in Jonesborough with a presentation by Dr. Tom Lee form ETSU and a performance by the 52nd Regimental String Band

Jonesborough Civitan Pickleball Tournament August 29, 2026
Join us for the Jonesborough Civitan Pickleball Tournament on August 29th at Tiger Park.
The tournament will be considered Mixed Doubles; however, teams may consist of two men, two women, or one of each. This tournament will be a 6-game guarantee that will consist of pool play followed by bracket play. Following pool play, teams will be divided into Gold and Silver brackets, both of which will be double elimination tournaments.
Registration and check in will begin at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning. You do not need to arrive that early unless you would like additional warm up time on the courts. We plan to gather all teams around 7:50 AM for a brief meeting with the goal of starting play promptly at 8:00 AM.
In the event the tournament is canceled due to rain, it will be rescheduled for September 19th. We are looking forward to a fun day of pickleball while supporting a great organization.

Kayla Gass is the Town of Jonesborough July Employee of the Month in recognition of her exceptional dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the Town of Jonesborough Utilities Department. Kayla joined the Town team in September 2025 as a Water Technician. While serving as a Water Technician, she willingly took on many responsibilities of the Utilities Administrative Assistant position during two extended vacancies, successfully balancing both administrative and operational duties to ensure uninterrupted department operations. Kayla played a key role in preparing Board of Mayor and Aldermen reports for Utilities, Utility Directors weekly meeting minutes, departmental communications, scheduling, and FEMA/TEMA documentation related to Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. She also demonstrated strong initiative by helping implement the Town’s new Cartograph/OpenGov asset management system, quickly learning the software and supporting a successful transition. Known for her cheerful outlook, teamwork, dependability, and customer-focused approach, Kayla consistently exceeds expectations, maintains high-quality work standards, and serves as an asset to both the Utilities Department and the Town of Jonesborough.
