Mechanic
Performs skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of a large variety of automobile and equipment. The work of this class involves major repair and maintenance on cars, light and heavy trucks, tractors, emergency vehicles and specialty equipment, construction equipment and all types of diesel and gasoline driven equipment. Work assignments are received orally and in writing and will require diagnosing mechanical failure and making necessary repairs. Work is subject to review while in progress and on completion by the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor. Salary is negotiable commensurate to experience, certification(s), and/or education.
Water Treatment Operator I
Performs responsible semiskilled work on an assigned shift; operates water treatment plant equipment and facilities; Employees in this class are responsible for the operation of water filters and chemical feeders used in the treatment of water. Duties include the taking of samples for laboratory analysis, and the reading and recording of meters at regular intervals. The work is supervised by the Assistant Water Treatment Director through inspection, and by observing the effectiveness of plant operation through the analysis of shift reports and chemical laboratory tests. Beginning salary is $21.46 per hour.
Equipment Operator I – Street Department
Performs responsible semiskilled work operating trucks, mowing equipment and less complex related automotive equipment. The work of this class involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of trucks and similar automotive equipment to transport men or materials, and to maintain and construct various public facilities. When the nature of work does not require constant operation of assigned equipment employees in this class participate in manual labor incidental to the job such as loading and unloading of equipment, and in performing unskilled or semiskilled maintenance and construction tasks. Assignments may be given in detail for each job, or work may follow well-established routines. Work is reviewed by a superior for quality, quantity, safety of operation and care of equipment. An assignment to this class assumes that the principal duty of an employee is equipment operation and that such operation is not merely incidental to other functions. Beginning salary is $19.27 an hour.
