StoryTown Radio Show "Gardens and Games"
April 22, 20247:00 pm - 8:00 pm
McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington School, 103 Franklin Ave, Jonesborough, TN 37659, USA
This April 22nd at 7PM, StoryTown is back with a fun & energetic show about some of our favorite hobbies, gardening and gaming. StoryTown performs in the format of a live, old-time radio show complete with sound effects, musical underscoring, live skits, and a great musical guest. This month’s show is all about the lessons we learn and the skills we develop through gardening and gaming. We have stories and advice from the local Garden Club, tales of victory and defeat from the Esports team at ETSU, and a look into what it’s like to work in a giant arcade from our friends and episode sponsors at Tiebreakers. We’ll also have part two of the harrowing story of a woman’s quest to save her husband during the Civil War. Will they make it home? Is there a garden or games in their future? Get your tickets and find out. Joining the cast this month will be Portail du Son, a new artist for the StoryTown Radio Show. Under the direction of Stacia Howard, these musicians from the Superior Saxophone Studio put a whole new spin on chamber music. We’ll also have cornhole and other games on hand for folks to enjoy before the show starts. The performance takes place on April 22nd at the McKinney Center at 7:00 pm. Shows last approximately an hour. Tickets are $10 and available online at Jonesborough.com/tickets or by calling the Historic Visitors Center at 423-753-1010. The Radio Show is also recorded for broadcast on local NPR station WETS 89.5 out of Johnson City, which can be heard the last Wednesday of the month at 8PM. StoryTown is sponsored by Tiebreakers, the Tennessee Arts Commission, Gary and Sandee Degner, Trivia with Budds, the Silver Raven, Mountain Empire Cremation and Burial Services, and the Wild Women of Jonesborough.

The Town of Jonesborough and the Tree and Townscape Board is set to celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting and tree giveaway event on Friday, April 26th in Jonesborough.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. at the Jonesborough Community Garden adjacent to the Washington County/Jonesborough Library located at 200 E. Sabine Drive. A fringe tree will be planted in the Community Garden to commemorate the event. Attendees are asked to park in the library parking lot.
"Arbor Day gives us a chance to acknowledge the importance of trees and what role they play in enhancing the community," said Glenn Rosenoff, Town Administrator for the Town of Jonesborough. "The Town is focused on preserving the trees in our community as well as planting new ones to be enjoyed by future generations.”Two hundred tree seedlings will be distributed at the event, free of charge.

International Storytelling Center, 100 W Main St, Jonesborough, TN 37659, USA
Michael Reno Harrell is an award-winning songwriter, veteran storyteller, and entertainer from the Southern Appalachian Mountains, where storytelling is as much a part of the culture as is music. A consummate entertainer, Harrell’s original stories and songs are based on experience – sometimes very funny, sometimes a bit scary, often heartwarming, and always entertaining.
In a perfect world, every town would have a storyteller, a keeper of the trunk of memories reminding us of who we are and where we came from. Michael Reno Harrell is that keeper. – Western North Carolina Magazine
