There will be a scheduled water outage on Thursday, November 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jonesborough’s Water Distribution Department is relocating a water line for new road construction. The water will be turned off on Old State Route 34 between the intersections with Judge Vines Road & Hall Road and also between the intersections with Upper Sand Valley Road & Berry Ridge Road.

Jonesborough, TN- Jonesborough is gearing up for another festive season in downtown. What better opportunity to spend time with family and friends than to grab a cup of hot chocolate, throw on mittens and hats and gather on Main Street in downtown Jonesborough to watch the annual lighted nighttime Christmas Parade. Continuing with tradition, the parade will take place on the second Saturday in December. Make plans to be a part of Jonesborough’s Annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 9th at 6pm in downtown Jonesborough.

Folks of all ages will gather along Boone and Main Streets downtown in anticipation of the arrival of floats, bands, classic cars, dancers and, of course, Santa Claus as they make their way downtown. This year’s theme is “Spirit of Christmas”. As one of the only nighttime parades in the area, Jonesborough takes advantage of the beautiful small-town setting in the downtown area as the setting stage for the event.

Entry deadline is Tuesday, December 5th. Incorporation of live music and lights is highly encouraged for all participants.

Donations for the Jonesborough Food Pantry are encouraged from participants and can be dropped off at Town Hall.

Street Department Leaf Pickup 2023 – 2024

The Town of Jonesborough Street Department will begin leaf collection pickup on Monday November 6th, 2023 and will continue through Friday January 5th, 2024.

Town residents are reminded that leaves must be raked to the curb, not blocking vehicular traffic or sidewalks, and not in drainage way areas; and must be clear of all debris, trash and tree limbs/brush.

Downtown Jonesborough Façade & Architectural Improvement Grant Program

Program Overview

The objective of the Downtown Jonesborough Façade & Architectural Improvement Grant Program (Façade Grant) is to provide incentives to improve the façade of buildings in an area within the Downtown Historic District in Jonesborough. By improving the appearance of building façades, the program serves to increase the economic viability of this area.  Improved aesthetics also increase property values, enhance the marketability of space within the buildings, eliminate blight and draw businesses and residents to the area.

The Downtown Façade Grant is administered by the Town of Jonesborough (TOJ).

Fall Doll Show returns to Jonesborough

The Fall Doll Show returns to Jonesborough on Saturday, October 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jonesborough Visitors Center, located at 117 Boones Street. This show has been held in Jonesborough for over 20 years.

Featured at the show will be antique, vintage, modern and art dolls which will be available for purchase. The show will also include other doll related items, such as clothing and accessories which will also be available to purchase.

Admission to the show is free, but voluntary donations are accepted for St. Jude Research Hospital. Collectors and enthusiasts are welcome.

Constitution Week honored with Tenth Annual Bell Ringing Ceremony

On Sunday, Sept. 10, the State of Franklin Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), will host its Tenth Annual Bell Ringing in honor of Constitution Week. The event takes place at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Hill School, located at 214 East Sabin Drive in Jonesborough across from the Jonesborough Public Library.

The program will focus on the history of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution that reads, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

The program will include music, proclamations, re-enactors and the history of enslavement and abolition in Jonesborough. Several heritage groups will be participating, including the Kings Mountain NSSAR, the Over mountain Victory Trail Association and participation from other local chapters of the NSDAR.

Attendees are asked to bring their own chair and a bell to ring. Seating will not be provided on site.

The Daughters of the American Revolution began the tradition of celebrating  to emphasize citizens’ responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution. In 1955, the DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was adopted by Congress and signed into law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The State of Franklin Chapter of the NSDAR has been based in Jonesborough since 1929.
