The beloved Jonesborough Days Kick-off Dinner is set to return on Wednesday, July 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., featuring the crowd-favorite Low Country Shrimp Boil. The event will be held in the Courtyard of the International Storytelling Center, located next to Jimmy Neil Smith Park, and is proudly sponsored by Food City of Jonesborough.
Guests will enjoy a traditional Low Country Boil, including shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, and crawfish, followed by a selection of fruit cobblers for dessert.
Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased in advance. Early ticket purchase is strongly recommended, as this event consistently sells out.
This event serves as a fundraiser for the 56th annual Jonesborough Days Festival, helping support one of the region’s most cherished Independence Day celebrations.

Participants will create a beautiful Blue Butterfly painting under the pavilion at Lincoln Park, located across from the Jonesborough Senior Center. As this is an outdoor event, please dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather.
In the event of severe weather, the class will be moved indoors to the Jonesborough Senior Center. Any weather-related updates will be posted on the event’s Facebook page.
All painting supplies are included, and instructor Tania will guide participants step-by-step through the painting process, making it easy and enjoyable for all skill levels.
This popular butterfly painting class has sold out three times at other locations, and this will be Tania’s final butterfly-themed class of the summer. Seating is limited, so advance registration is strongly encouraged.

Join the Jackson Theatre and the McKinney Center for a series of programs celebrating local history and America’s 250th birthday. Tales of Our 250th includes skits, historians, re-enactors, musicians, and much more in a tapestry of Jonesborough stories and community history. These events will run June-October and start at 7:00 pm. They are Pay What You Can but go ahead and reserve your seats at Jonesborough.com/tickets.
Each evening will include a scene or scenes from the original play The First and Last Town in Tennessee, written by Anne G’Fellers-Mason, which premiered earlier this year at the McKinney Center and was featured in The New York Times. Join Jonesborough historian Paul Fink, portrayed by Tim Herron, as he walks you through the big and small moments that make Jonesborough an important part of the American story.

September 24th – The Lost State of Franklin with a presentation by Dr. William Hardy from MTSU and the stories behind the Battle of the State of Franklin with Tipton Haynes State Historic Site
October 22nd – A House Divided: Civil War History in Jonesborough with a presentation by Dr. Tom Lee form ETSU and a performance by the 52nd Regimental String Band

Regarded as one of the world's preeminent slide guitar virtuosos, Lee Roy Parnell has become synonymous with the instrument and the music that has shaped his life from his youngest years.
Born in Abilene, Texas to Roy and Anna Belle Parnell in the winter of 1956, Parnell was raised with an uncompromising work ethic, a healthy respect for tradition, and an unquenchable love of music. Nurtured by everything from the Grand Ol' Opry, to Cotton-country Blues, Hardshell Gospel and the inescapable sound of Bob Wills and Roadhouse Boogie that permeated the North Central Texas plains, that love grew into a passion before Parnell reached his early teens.
"It sounds a little like a press-release," he said recently, "but the truth is I was raised in a house filled with music. It was as much a part of the soundtrack of youth as my mother's voice and my Daddy's lessons. It was sustenance to me...like water. And it was my way out of Texas. It was my map."
In the summer of seventy-four, he set out for the only destination on that map that made sense: Nashville.
For nearly twenty years, Parnell paid his dues in every honky-tonk and blues bar from Nashville to Austin and back, honing his craft, sharpening his vocal chops, and fine-tuning the blues-infused slide-guitar style that would become his signature.
"I'm a blue-eyed country soul singer and slide guitar player by trade...that's how I see it," Parnell told a Texas journalist late in 2014. "And I'm privileged to practice a trade that's brought so many blessings to my life."
Blessings that include eight critically-acclaimed albums, and a string of hits that established him as one of Country Music's most gifted triple-threats; as a singer, a writer, and virtuoso guitarist. Talents that brought him nomination nods from the Grammy Awards, the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music, legions of hardcore fans, and induction into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame.
But they were blessings that came neither easily nor quickly for this singularly brilliant American artist; a fact Parnell acknowledges and embraces.
"It takes a little while in this business to figure out who you is and who you ain't," he told Rock & Blues Muse recently. "But I'm little older, now, and there's one thing I've realized about myself --

Jonesborough’s Wizardly World weekend just got a lot more magical. For the first time, Main Street Jonesborough, in partnership with The Goose Chase, will host the Great Hall Dinner as the official kickoff event for Jonesborough’s Wizardly World weekend.
The enchanting dinner experience will take place on Friday, July 31, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the International Storytelling Center, Harry’s Birthday, making it the perfect way for witches, wizards, and magical guests of all ages to begin the weekend’s festivities.
Guests will step into the atmosphere of a wizarding feast while enjoying a specially curated menu inspired by the traditional start-of-term feasts. The evening’s meal, prepared by Main Street Café and Catering, will feature roasted chicken, roasted potatoes, roasted carrots, sourdough bread, salad, and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. This also includes one specialty cocktail or mocktail. Main Street Café and Catering is also known for preparing the beloved Farm to Table Dinner in downtown Jonesborough, bringing their expertise and culinary creativity to this new unique experience.
Tickets to the Great Hall Dinner are $95 and will also offer immersive experiences featuring character meet-and-greets, photo opportunities, live themed entertainment, and interactive surprises throughout the evening for guests to fully embrace the magic of the wizardly world. Costumes are encouraged.
