April 26, 2024 10:00 am - 11:00 am200 E. Sabine Drive
The Town of Jonesborough and the Tree and Townscape Board is set to celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting and tree giveaway event on Friday, April 26th in Jonesborough.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. at the Jonesborough Community Garden adjacent to the Washington County/Jonesborough Library located at 200 E. Sabine Drive. A fringe tree will be planted in the Community Garden to commemorate the event. Attendees are asked to park in the library parking lot.
"Arbor Day gives us a chance to acknowledge the importance of trees and what role they play in enhancing the community," said Glenn Rosenoff, Town Administrator for the Town of Jonesborough. "The Town is focused on preserving the trees in our community as well as planting new ones to be enjoyed by future generations.”Two hundred tree seedlings will be distributed at the event, free of charge.

Proud daughter of immigrant parents, Jasmin Cardenas is an award-winning Colombian-American storyteller, actress, educator, and arts activist who explores the uncomfortable truths of our complicated humanity. Cardenas regularly tours her Spanish bilingual program, Cuentos From The Americas, which highlights lesser known folktales and legends to libraries, schools, and festivals around the country. Recognized for her work using theater to uplift workers’ voices, in 2020 Jasmin was awarded an international LAB Fellowship at the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics at Georgetown University. A member of Dramatists Guild of America, Cardenas is the adapter of a children’s book, Maybe Something Beautiful, as a bilingual puppet film and live performance with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Together with working Chicagoans she developed WorkersTEATRO to harness the power of art in action and move the dial for workers rights. Also an actress, Jasmin has performed on numerous stages including Steppenwolf, Goodman, and Lifeline Theatre and her television credits include appearances on Chicago Fire (NBC), The CHI (Showtime), and Betrayal (ABC). But her favorite role in life is Mamá to two beautiful kids. “There are brilliant passages where Cardenas enthralls…. She is speaking the dialogue clearly in English but it feels like she is speaking in tongues.” Chicago Theater Beat

Into the Woods
May 23, 2024 7:30 pm - 10:00 pmJonesborough Repertory Theatre, 125 W Main St, Jonesborough, TN 37659, USA
James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. (Music Theatre International)
