The Water Treatment Plant is located off Arnold Road in Washington County. The water source for the system is the Nolichucky River and the plant uses a charcoal filtration process, and a MIOX, mixed oxidant, disinfection process that is much safer than chlorine gas, and more effective as a disinfecting agent. The MIOX process also eliminates the taste and odor problem associated with chlorine gas.
